Been away
I have been away from work for a number of weeks. I wish I could say that it was for fun but that has not been the case. I had worked for 8 days ending December 21 and had picked up my family to spend Christmas our families, most of which live in southern California. I returned to work on December 30 with the schedule calling for me to work roughly 3 weeks. This was due to a schedule change being required to fix the schedule to allow for the 212 to be shut down for several months because of the budget cuts and financial troubles that the city is experiencing.
On January 1 I got a call from my sister telling me that my Dad was in the hospital and had undergone emergency surgery. I spoke with him the next day, the morning of the second and after that conversation I began making arrangements to head to the hospital. It is no easy task to shut one of the helicopters down and I left that evening. About 15 minutes into the hour and a half trip I got another call that he had passed away.
I spent the next few weeks trying to help my Mom out and just got home to get some things done before I head back to work.
